EMDR Therapy for Trauma, Anxiety & Attachment Wounds in Austin or Online
You understand why you feel this way. Your body hasn't caught up yet.
Maybe you've talked about it for years. You can explain where the anxiety comes from, why you people-please, why certain moments still knock the wind out of you. But knowing hasn't made it stop. EMDR works with the part of you that talking alone doesn't always reach.

At Mosaic, we offer EMDR therapy in two formats: weekly sessions and multi-day intensives. Both are led by clinicians who have done this work themselves.

What Is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, evidence-based therapy for trauma and the patterns trauma leaves behind. It's recognized by the World Health Organization and the VA as an effective treatment for PTSD.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or alternating tones, while you briefly hold a memory in mind. This helps your brain reprocess it, so it can feel like something that happened rather than something still happening.
When something overwhelming happens, the memory can get stored in a way that still feels present. A smell, a tone of voice, or a look on someone's face can bring it all back.
You don't have to retell every detail of what happened. You stay in control of the pace the whole time.
What EMDR Can Help With
EMDR is best known for PTSD, but most of the people we see aren't coming in for a single traumatic event. They're carrying something quieter that has shaped their whole life.
- Complex trauma and CPTSD
- Attachment wounds
- Anxiety that doesn't respond to logic
- Depression and feeling stuck
- People-pleasing, perfectionism, and over-functioning
- Medical trauma and chronic illness
- Burnout and secondary trauma in helpers
Our care is neurodivergent-affirming and queer-affirming. We adapt EMDR to how your brain and nervous system actually work.

Estella helps teens and adults heal from complex trauma, mother and attachment wounds, people-pleasing, and perfectionism. Many of her clients learned early to push through, perform, or put everyone else first. As a Latina, first-generation, neurodivergent therapist and mom, she brings lived experience and real warmth to the work. Her sessions blend EMDR with somatic, parts-based, and emotion-focused approaches, with room for humor and messiness alongside the hard stuff.
Joshua works primarily in intensive formats: multi-day, deep-processing EMDR for people ready to move past managing symptoms. His own recovery from complex trauma began with EMDR, including intensive work, and it changed the direction of his career. He's an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant, and he trains and consults with other EMDR clinicians.

Questions About EMDR Therapy in Austin
How much does EMDR therapy cost in Austin?
Weekly EMDR with Estella is $150 for a 50-minute session or $270 for 90 minutes, with limited sliding scale spots. EMDR intensives with Joshua start at $3,250 for a two-day intensive. Payment plans are available for intensives through Klarna, Affirm, and AfterPay.
Do you take insurance for EMDR?
We're private pay. We can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Private pay also keeps diagnoses off your insurance record and keeps treatment decisions between you and your therapist.
How many EMDR sessions will I need?
It varies a lot. Someone working on a single recent event may need relatively few sessions. Complex or childhood trauma usually takes longer. Your therapist will talk with you about pacing as you go, and you can always ask where things stand.
Do I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
No. EMDR doesn't require you to describe every detail out loud. You'll briefly bring a memory to mind, and much of the processing happens internally. You decide what to share.
What does an EMDR session feel like?
Early sessions focus on getting to know you and building calming skills. Processing sessions involve short sets of eye movements, tapping, or tones while you notice whatever comes up, with check-ins between sets. Some people feel tired afterward, so give yourself some gentle time after a session.
Is EMDR evidence-based?
Yes. EMDR is one of the most researched trauma therapies. The World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs both recommend it for PTSD.
Can EMDR help if I don't have one big trauma?
Yes. Many of our clients don't point to a single event. They're working with years of smaller experiences: feeling unseen, walking on eggshells, or always being the responsible one. EMDR can work with these patterns and the beliefs they left behind, like 'I'm too much' or 'I have to earn love.'
Is EMDR a good fit for neurodivergent people?
It can be, when it's adapted. We're neurodivergent-affirming, and all of us are neurodivergent ourselves. We adjust things like pacing, the type of bilateral stimulation, and how we communicate to fit how your brain works.
Do you offer EMDR online?
Yes! Intensives take place in person at our South Austin office, or in your home within 20 miles of Austin, or online. We also offer weekly EMDR Therapy online.
What's the difference between weekly EMDR and an intensive?
It's the same therapy at a different pace. Weekly sessions give you steady support over time. Intensives give you several hours a day across 2 to 5 days, without the stop-and-start of weekly sessions. See the comparison above, or visit our EMDR Intensives page for packages.
Who should not do EMDR?
EMDR may need to wait if you're in active crisis, have unmanaged substance use, or are in an unsafe living situation. Some conditions call for extra preparation first. We'll talk through this during your consult. We don't provide crisis services; if you're in crisis, call or text 988.
